To all my sisters | A Poem for women | Written by Afolayan Similoluwa

Brief Introduction: In this poem for women, poet means to say that women are meant to be loved and not made to feel like preys and it’s time for us to stand up for ourselves.

Walking in the dark alone
She could feel his gaze
One that was like cold stone
But burning within it was a craze

Used to being the prey
Perceived as the weak
All she could do was pray
As she felt her fear peak

She had always dreamt of a world
Free from insecurities and abuse
From her sisters being mauled,
Where the hunter would call a truce

It seems as though a far fetched wish
As it seems he keeps getting excited
And encroaches into our niche
Uncaring and uninvited

Tired of jumping at our own shadow
And of being scared of the dark
I turned around and delivered my blow
An indication that it’s time to fight back

Under love do we flourish
And with care do we thrive
Never place us on a leash
If you do we’ll still learn to survive

Females are meant to be loved
Not shoved
We are stronger than we look
Nothing leaves us shook
